Publishing by hand
Copy a finished piece out of Meelu and put it on your website yourself.
Meelu does not publish anything on its own. It does not connect to your website or your hosting. When a piece is ready, you copy it and add it to your site yourself. If you linked Webflow, Contentful or WordPress.com on the Connections screen, Meelu can save the page there as a draft, and you publish it. In Webflow you can also ask Meelu to publish it live.
This is on purpose. You know your site, your layout and your timing. Meelu helps you write a good page. Whether and when it goes live is your decision.
Copy the piece
Open the piece
Click the piece on the Content screen.
Check the warnings
Open Details and Checks and deal with anything you want to fix. See Checks.
Click Copy markdown
Click the copy icon in the top bar. Meelu saves the piece first, then copies it. A check mark shows when it is on your clipboard.
Paste it into your site
Create a new page in your website's editor and paste the text in. Set the title, meta description and web address there as well.
What you get
The copy is in Markdown. Markdown is a plain-text format for headings, lists and links. Many website tools accept it directly, and most can convert it.
The copy has three parts, in this order:
- A header block between two
---lines. It holds the page details:title, description(the meta description),slugandkeyword(the target keyword). Details that are empty are left out. Many website tools read this block. If yours does not, use the values to fill in the page settings, then delete the block. - The H1, as a line that starts with
#. - The body, with its headings, lists, links and images.
For example:
---
title: How to send an invoice that gets paid
description: Send it the day the work ships, put a real due date on it, and follow up the day after.
slug: /blog/how-to-send-an-invoice
keyword: how to send an invoice
---
# How to send an invoice that gets paid
The body starts here…Copy markdown is the only export. There is no file download or direct publish.
Things to check after you paste
- Images. Images you added in the editor are stored in Meelu. The image links in the copied text point at Meelu, not at your site. Upload the same images to your own site and update the links.
- Internal links. Links to your other pages are written as paths, such as
/pricing. They work as they are when the page lives on the same site. - The slug. Set your page's web address to match the slug, so the address fits the folders your site already uses.
After you publish
Meelu does not know that you published the piece. The piece stays on the Content desk as a draft you can keep editing. If you change the page on your site later, change the piece in Meelu as well if you want the two to match.
The next time Meelu crawls your site, the new page shows up on the Site desk like any other page. See Site desk.
